Proper HVAC Maintenance Can Alleviate The Strain Of Spring AllergiesProper HVAC maintenance not only keeps your system running at its maximum efficiency, it helps alleviate spring allergy symptoms. When the HVAC system does not function the way it’s suppose to, this can increase the amount of contaminants in the air. Fortunately, regular maintenance will prolong the life of your cooling and heating system and improves indoor air quality.

Air Filter Replacement

The air filter in your HVAC system traps particles and prevents them from reentering your home’s air. When the filter is dirty or clogged, it can impede air flow through your cooling and heating system, allow dirt and debris to get into sensitive components, and blow the same materials through the filter and into your air. Particles such as dust, dander and mold spores aggravate allergy and asthma symptoms. However, replacing your air filter regularly will reduce allergy flare-ups and help prolong the life of your HVAC system.

Air Filter Upgrade

Upgrading the air filter can increase its air cleaning ability and help your cooling and heating equipment run more efficiency. When you’re looking at filters, choose one with a high MERV rating (between 9 and 13 are considered ideal for most systems). MERV (minimum efficiency recording value) rates how well a particular filter captures the smallest particles. Check with an HVAC professional for the optimum MERV rating for your cooling and heating system, but be aware that the highest MERV filters, while capturing the smallest particles, may impede air flow through your system.

Proper HVAC Maintenance

Your HVAC system requires annual maintenance to ensure that it’s functioning properly. With proper HVAC maintenance, a professional technician can catch potential problems before they become big problems.

Duct Sealing

Over time, the ducts used to circulate cooled or heated air through your home can develop leaks and holes. Pressure differences can allow dirty air to get sucked into the ducts and circulated in your home. By sealing the ducts, you will reduce the particles in your home’s air while also lowering your energy usage. The HVAC professionals who maintain your system can help keep your ducts functioning properly.
